Our shih tzu puppies are raised in our home in Picayune, Mississippi. Our town is located approximately 45 miles from New Orleans, Hattiesburg, and Gulfport–Biloxi. It's an easy drive to I-59, Exit 4 to pick up your new shih tzu puppy.
We only breed and raise AKC registered Shih Tzu's. We specialize in raising healthy and happy shih tzu puppies that will make the best family companions possible.
We have shih tzu puppies for sale several times a year. Check our available puppy page for current litters and availability.
Until your puppy has received ALL of their vaccinations they should not be allowed to walk in any areas where unvaccinated dogs may have been. This includes dog parks, sidewalks in your neighborhood, and even the veterinarian's office.
We register our puppies with limited AKC registration and we have a clause in our contract that your dog will be spayed/neutered by 1 year old. If you are interested in purchasing breeding rights, please disclose that in your application and discuss it with us prior to paying your deposit.
All of our shih tzu puppies receive their first puppy vaccinations at 6-7 weeks old. They will require booster shots every 3 weeks until they are 16 weeks old. It is CRITICAL that puppies receive booster shots to prevent Parvovirus and other diseases.
Our puppies are fed either Purina Pro Plan puppy food or Science Diet puppy formula. I recommend continuing the same diet. Your shih tzu puppy will go home with a sample bag of food. If you choose to switch your puppy to a different food you can mix the sample food and the new food to help transition your puppy to the new food with less tummy upset.
Our puppies are started on NuVet Plus supplements once they are eating food well, usually by 6 weeks old. The supplements are one of the essentials that I'd like each of my puppy parents to continue using once they take their baby home. This daily treat offers key nutrients for immune and tummy support while your puppy transitions to a new home, and it will continue to offer total body support through each stage of life.
We are an approved distributer for NuVet Labs dog and cat supplements. Products are not sold in stores. Go to www.NuVet.com to place your order using Order Code 376154.
Carrier
You will need a safe way to transport your new puppy home and to the vet. He/she will only be around 3 pounds at 8 weeks old so a small soft side carrier with a zipper door on the top and side will work well.
Harness and Leash
You will need a harness and leash to walk your puppy. At first, simply walk him in your house and enclosed yard to teach him how to properly walk on a leash. Once he is fully vaccinated he can go for walks outside. Your puppy has already been microchipped and registered to you upon purchase but it is always best to have a physical tag with your phone number attached to the harness too.
Dog Crate, Exercise Pen, Baby Gates
Your new puppy will need a safe space to sleep and play when you are not able to provide your full attention.
Food and Water Dishes
Look for sturdy bowls that won't tip over easily. Stainless steel or ceramic is easier to clean and don't harbor bacteria.
Puppy Food
I'll let you know which food your new puppy has been eating. If you decide to change brands you can use the sample I send home to transition him to the new food. You puppy should be fed puppy food instead of adult dog food until they are at least 10 months old. Grain-free foods are not appropriate for puppy.
Dog Toys
You'll find all types of dog toys but stay away from rawhide chew sticks or bones. They are full of chemicals and once chewed can be a choking hazard to your puppy.
Training and Treats
Look for small training treats such as Zuke's Mini's to use as rewards. Give your new puppy a few days to settle in then start basic training commands like Sit, Come, and Stay. Keep training sessions short - 5-10 minutes at a time.
Grooming Tools
A slicker or pin brush works well on a shih tzu coat. You'll want to brush your puppy daily and get down to the skin to ensure there are no mats. At first a small cat slicker brush is easy to use for your small puppy.
